Every year new predictions are made concerning ERP in the coming years. ERP is very dynamic and making predictions is not an easy feat. However, it is interesting to want to know where the industry might be in the coming years.

The Future of ERP

Several things are expected from ERP in the coming future. Some of these include:

  • Deployment of cloud
  • Embedded analytics to replace in-memory appliances
  • Coupled applications to replace deconstructed suites
  • Mobility in all applications
  • The growth of integration hassles

Main Predictions for ERP in Future

ERP system consumerisation – More employees continue to join the workforce, and it is likely that there will be increased consumerisation of ERP systems so that these new workers can be accommodated. Companies will have to shift from some types of systems due to increased pressure, and as a result, ERP vendors will be forced to create solutions that are intuitive and user-friendly.

Mobility will be main-stream – The majority of the industry’s analysts tend to talk about Cloud and SaaS. These two are likely to see increased adoption in the future, but most importantly, the primary technological reality will be mobility. Many people in companies will use mobile devices to access enterprise data and for decision-making.

More focus on business data and intelligence – These trends are by now gaining a lot of momentum. Business intelligence movement is expected to continue increasing in the coming years. Organisations will want to focus on how they can make sense of the data that they capture via their ERP and turn it into a strategic advantage. Already some ERP vendors such as Oracle, SAP, Infor among others are already investing in their business intelligence.

The good news about the future of ERP is that effective ERP and IT strategy will help companies overcome some of the challenges they face.
